JUVÉDERM® is a family of fillers, and each product is formulated for a different purpose. VOLUMA® XC uses Vycross® technology to create a thicker, more structured gel built for deep injection and cheek projection. JUVÉDERM® ULTRA and ULTRA PLUS are softer gels designed for areas like the lips and nasolabial folds.

At Symmetry Med Spa, we use the VECTRA 3D Imaging and Simulation System to help you visualize what your results might look like. This technology is the most sophisticated education and planning tool on the market. We use it frequently to help our surgical patients plan their procedures, and it may also be used to create a simulation of your post-injection results.

Yes. VOLUMA® is a hyaluronic acid–based filler, which means it can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase. This is one of the main advantages of HA fillers over alternatives like Sculptra® or Radiesse®, which are not reversible (although they are excellent products in their own rights). That said, the need for dissolution is rare when treatment is performed by experienced, well-trained providers like our Master Injectors.

The most common side effects are temporary injection-site redness, swelling, tenderness, firmness, lumps/bumps, and bruising. In a clinical trial, these were rated mild to moderate and resolved within about two weeks for the majority of patients.

All cosmetic procedures carry the potential for risks, which will be fully discussed with you during your consultation. Choosing a highly trained injector with deep knowledge of facial anatomy is the single best way to minimize risk.

Results are visible right away. The filler lifts and supports your cheeks as soon as it’s injected. Expect to see your final results within about two weeks, once any residual swelling has resolved and the filler has fully integrated with your natural tissues.

JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA® XC is the longest-lasting FDA-approved hyaluronic acid filler for the cheeks, with clinical data supporting durability up to 24 months. That said, longevity is personal.

Research published in Dermatologic Surgery found that results can vary by the specific area of the cheek being treated: the anteromedial cheek (the area closest to your nose) maintained correction for up to 24 months, the zygomaticomalar region (above the cheekbone) averaged 19 months, and the submalar region (below the cheekbone) averaged closer to 15 months.

Candidacy is less about a number and more about what you see in the mirror. Some patients in their mid-30s use small amounts of JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA® XC to preserve cheek contour before more significant volume loss occurs. Others come in at 55 or 60 looking to restore fullness they’ve lost over time. Both approaches produce beautiful, natural results when guided by an experienced Master Injector.

Most patients benefit from one to four syringes of JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA® XC for cheek enhancement. Your Master Injector may recommend starting conservatively and building over one or more follow-up appointments. In both our surgical practice and our medical spa, our philosophy is that the best results look natural and proportional rather than “done.”

Most patients schedule a maintenance appointment around 18 months after their initial treatment, though results can last up to 24 months. Because touch-up sessions typically require about half the volume of the first treatment, ongoing maintenance tends to be less involved than the initial session.

Many of our patients pair midface volume restoration with BOTOX® Cosmetic or another neurotoxin to smooth crow's feet, or with other JUVÉDERM fillers to address the lips, jawline, or nasolabial folds during the same appointment. Skin rejuvenation treatments like BBL or microneedling can also complement filler by improving skin texture and tone alongside the structural improvement from VOLUMA®.
